Getting my sh*t together.

For some time now, photography has had to take a back seat.

The last 18 months has been dominated by a very different kind of project, a head on fight against cancer within my family. Photography, along with the projects I had planned and the ideas I had been developing, had to be put on hold. Quite simply, there were more important things to deal with.

Over the past few months, however, I have found myself gradually looking forward again. Rather than trying to pick up where I left off, I have been thinking more carefully about what I want my photography to become and, perhaps more importantly, what I actually need to do the job. That process has led to a fairly radical decision. I sold all of my camera equipment including my beloved OM1s.

It might sound strange, particularly given how much time I have spent building a collection of cameras and lenses, but there was something quite liberating about starting again. Instead of chasing newer equipment or trying to cover every possible photographic situation, I decided to return to the cameras I used during my professional days, Nikon SLR/DSLR’s with primes.

And so, after a fairly long period away from photography, I am beginning to look forward to revisiting some of the ideas that had been put on hold. Im getting used to the kit again and feeling my way around these cameras abilities and handling again so its all practice, practice, practice!

There is, however, one small exception to all this talk of returning to the old Nikon guard. I have also acquired a new to me daily carry Nikon. It is very small, very capable and rather interesting. I can tell you that it has no traditional viewfinder but it is not a Nikon Z, that one deserves a blog of its own!
