“Sometimes, a photographs greatest impact is simply saying ‘I see you’ , that is what I strive to do and now it is the sole purpose of my work”

- Dylan Pierce Williams

Profile

Born in 1972 and raised in a small village in Eryri, North Wales, Dylan took his first considered photograph at the age of seven — a shot of his grandfather in the greenhouse, captured on a Kodak 110 camera.

Mostly self trained, he studied graphic design at Bangor Technical College under the guidance of Ed Davies.  It was during this time he was introduced to Fay Godwins black and white work, and her image the ‘Old Harlech to London Road’ had an instant impact on Dylan, who was at the time invested in Landscape Photography.

Dylan continues to study the great photographers such as Cartier-Bresson.  He owes a deep debt of gratitude to the late John Free for his teachings, especially in the field of street photography. More recently his studies of the late Philip Jones Griffiths and David Hurn, both Welsh Photographers, has infuenced a shift in his work from single candid moments to broader narratives of documentary photography.
